About Seb

Sebastian Ko is managing director of A.I. Vermont (a Cyberport incubatee) and an expert in computational law and crypto regulation. 

Trained as a scientist and practised as an attorney, he holds leadership roles in the law and technology community in Asia. Mr. Ko holds business, law and science degrees, including the Bachelor of Civil Law (Oxford) and the MBA (HKUST). He was recognized as a Distinguished Service Awardee, Law Society of Hong Kong (LSHK), an Inter-Pacific Bar Scholar and Gen. T List Honoree.

Mr. Ko has serial entrepreneurial experiences, and has, over 10 years, held leadership roles in tech startups, fast-growth, and listed companies. He was Asia managing director of FiscalNote (Note.NASDAQ)and regional director and senior legal counsel at EPIQ, a global alternative legal services provider. Earlier on, Mr. Ko practised law at Linklaters and Debevoise & Plimpton in financial services regulation and corporate dispute resolution.

As adjunct lecturer, Mr. Ko co-designed and taught a course on legal innovation practices at the University of Hong Kong. He regularly speaks and publishes on data protection, intellectual property, technology law and policy, including co-authorships in The RegTech Book and The LegalTech Book.

In the community, Mr. Ko led organization of the first Asia access to justice tech hackathon and was the founding chair of the InnoTech Law Hub, LSHK. He chaired the Hong Kong Hub of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community. The HKSAR government has appointed Mr. Ko to the Panel of Adjudicators, Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles. He also volunteers as a mentor at Time Auction.

He is a fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and an industry associate of the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies
